From Behind the Camera: Cruise Night Memories 2018!

Hello everyone... and welcome back! It's now the year 2020! I sincerely apologize for going M.I.A. for the last year and a half. Honestly, when I originally started typing this...I wasn't in a very good place mentally or physically with my photography. I was frustrated and angry. I struggled to find opportunities and models to work with. I struggled to have confidence in my work and in myself. As a result, I procrastinated until I completely forgot all about my photography website and this blog.

Fast-forward to today, it's a completely different story! I'm at a much happier place in my life, which has allowed me to become more motivated with my photography. I truly enjoy it again! None of it would be possible without the encouragement and effort of the wonderful group of ladies that I work with. Thank you, Lexie, Lissi, Ally, Abby, and Nicole! You have helped revive my photography. You have helped me to once again create photos that I'm excited and proud of! (I'll be highlighting the photo shoots from 2019 in upcoming posts) Most importantly, you ladies have reminded me of the value of my talent...and to once again share it with the world!

Now, let's get back to the photo shoot at hand... Cruise Night Memories 2018. (I'll try my best to remember as much as I can.)

In June of 2018, my buddy Sloan and I found time in our busy lives to rewind back to the times we spent cruising around town. It was always a great way to vent about life, tell some stories, and share some laughs. For me, it was a great way to forget about things for a while and enjoy good company and to spend time in my car.

This particular evening, Sloan and I reminisced about one of the first photo shoots we did back in 2013. We agreed that we should go to the same locations and try to recreate some of the photos...just to see how much things had changed in five years.

The first location was on the side of the road, just about a mile away from my house. Living on a gravel road has many disadvantages when owning a classic car...but during the Summer it does create some really unique photo opportunities. The best part is that traffic is scarce, so it gives you plenty of time to set up some really creative shots!

Sloan grabbed his guitar out of the car and we did some photos with a traveling musician theme. As we were taking photos, we discussed how many musicians probably did the same thing back in the day.

Normally, I would shy away from having my photo taken and just stay behind the camera. However, I remembered the photos that Nicole and I had taken the year before, and I felt it was appropriate to update. Plus, I was excited about how my outfit and my car sort of created this vibe that I was proud of. (I had recently found a t-shirt that resembled the Michigan license plate from 1969...with SUMMER on it. I felt cool and confident, because I knew that not many people could create photos that I could with my car.)

I handed Sloan the camera and explained a few simple photography tricks. I'm extremely happy with the photos he took. In fact, they are some of my favorites and ones that I look to update in the near future.

Being able to go back to certain places brought back a lot of memories. Sloan and I just shook our head and laughed at how we thought we had life figured out back then. The things that had us stressed out back then...they became so small and meaningless. Life was presenting us with new opportunities and challenges. We were now making real decisions that were going to shape our lives.

Another location we stopped for photos was the infamous "P Lot" in town.... It isn't a location for fun and creative photos, but it was the location that kinda started it all. Back in 2013, Sloan and I both took a few cool sunset photos with my car in the parking lot. It was fun to try to update them. I think we did a pretty good job!

We headed down to one of the lake side parks for a bit. Sloan showed me a few of the songs he had learned on guitar, while I took photos. Before we left, I once again had Sloan get a few photos of myself with my car. I plan on updating these photos this Summer!

The final stop of this cruise night was Seagull Pointe... I wanted to try to recreate the photo that was published on the cover of California Mustang's 2014 parts catalog. Sloan had a great idea to use the timer setting and the tripod to get a cool photo of the both of us. I call it our "Fast 7" photo, because it shows a similar friendship to that of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. As the years go by, life has taken us in different directions. It's nice to always have that memory to look back on.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my website and blog. I appreciate the support.
